Release notes
The changes in each version.
Version 0.4.21 · 12 October 2026
- Recitation on Windows, Mac and Linux is now played by the app's own player instead of the web component: ayah follows ayah exactly, with no added gap and no ticking; pause, resume, previous/next ayah and a change of reciter react at once.
Version 0.4.11 · 11 October 2026
- The basmalah is recited before the first ayah of every surah (except Al-Fatihah and At-Taubah), in the chosen reciter's voice.
- The first reciter plays as soon as its first ayah is downloaded, without waiting for the whole download. With no reciter yet, Play explains what to do and opens the Recitation menu.
- While the recitation plays, Play recites the surah or page on screen, and Go to takes the recitation along.
- Search results come in mushaf order, or by Best match.
- A star button (Favourites) beside every ayah. The reading settings icon is now a gear, with a Display mode explanation (Ayat or Mushaf).
- Full-screen mushaf on the computer: the page fills the screen, with a margin of only 10 pixels.
Version 0.4.8 · 11 October 2026
- New menu. On phones: one bar at the bottom, showing the main menu (Read, Search, History, Recitation, Info) or the open section's tools, with a home button back to the menu. Held sideways, the bar becomes a rail on the left edge.
- Read: Go to (surah, juz or page in one window), Play, Memorise and View. Bookmark and full screen at the top right.
- History replaces Bookmarks and Starred: Bookmark (with the place last read, to resume) and Favourites, which can be sorted and deleted.
- A search result opens in the ayah view with the ayah marked and a way back to the results. On wide screens Search and History sit beside the reader; drag the edge between them.
- Mushaf: long-press an ayah to read its translation at once, step to the ayah before or after it on the page, play the recitation from it, or keep it (Bookmark, Favourites). A recitation that is playing goes on undisturbed; the highlight on the page marks only the ayah being recited.
- Fixes: the links in Info open again; recitation on the computer no longer stops now and then with "The operation is not supported"; stopping a memorisation plan on Android really stops the repeats; the memorisation ayah field shows the surah's last ayah; the tajweed colour legend is in View.
Version 0.3.3 · 11 October 2026
- Seven new reciters from mp3quran.net: Akram Al-Alaqmi, Ahmad Nu'aina, Ahmad Isa Al-Ma'sarawi, Abdulhadi Kanakeri, Anas Al-Emadi, Khalid Abdulkafi and Abdurrahman Al-Majed (1.3 to 1.8 GB each).
- Recitation downloads adapt to the connection: more files are fetched at once while the speed still rises, and fewer when the server limits or the connection falters.
Version 0.3.2 · 10 October 2026
- Nabil Ar-Rifai and Saad Al-Ghamdi on Windows, Mac and Linux: “Play this page”, a long press on an ayah and a change of reciter now always start at the right ayah; before, the recitation sometimes started from the beginning of the surah.
